Dental veneers are ceramic shells applied to the outer surface of the tooth. Before the placement of the veneer the tooth is polished. Although veneers are a similar to partial crowns during their appliance the tooth only needs the minimum amount of polishing, while the crowns require a greater area of the tooth to be filed down.
TOTAL AND PARTIAL DENTURES
There are different types of dentures: total and partial. If the patient only has a few teeth partial dentures that fit between the existing teeth are used. Total dentures are used in the case where there are only few or no tooth. The remaining teeth are extracted and a denture mould is taken.
A bridge is a dental restoration meant to replace one or more missing teeth. A traditional bridge is made from a fake tooth attached to two crowns placed on two neighbouring teeth.
If the gap between the teeth is not filled you risk the displacement of neighboring teeth that can lead to the loss of correct bite and to the development of periodontal disease. Dental bridges preserve the integrity and structure of your teeth.
The denture mould is then sent to the dental laboratory where the dentures are created.
While waiting for their dentures, patients get a temporary set.
Overdentures are semi-fixed dentures are placed on dental implants. They are held in places in the jaw with precision attachments: either a sphere or a bar. Overdentures are can easily be removed for cleaning and they are held firmly in place while eating or speaking.
