A dental implant is composed of three parts: the implant , the stump or superstructure and the crown. Dental implants and superstructures last for a lifetime.
The stump is the part that connects the implant to the crown. There are various materials of which the stumps are made like for example ceramic, gold, titanium and other fine materials.
After the process of osteointegartion is completed, the stump is placed on the implant creating the foundation for the crown. In some cases the stump is placed on the implant and left there for a few weeks. After the gums have healed, in a few weeks time, the final crown is placed on the stump giving the patients their smile back.
